We partner with a limited number of domestic lumber suppliers who practice sustainable forest management.
What is sustainable forest management?
Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. ~The Brundtland Commission, 1987
Sustainable forest management take into account the needs of humans and nature and balances those needs for both the present and the future.
- Most harvesting is conducted on single tree selection; that is selection of individual mature trees for harvest rather than clear cutting.
- One third of the U.S. is covered with trees….more than 747 million acres. This number has actually grown over the past 100 years.
- Each day, the forestry community plants over 4 million seedlings to ensure the continuation of this important natural resource.

Over 99% of the wood fiber coming into American Millwork’s plant is sold to distributors or end users as eco friendly wood products.
Why does eco friendly wood matter?
Properly managed forests combat climate change.
- America’s forests offset 10-20% of our annual carbon emissions
- One tree can absorb as much carbon each year as an average car produces while driving 26,000 miles.
- Two mature trees produce enough oxygen for a family of four each year.
